Because I'm curious: When you walk into an arcade, whether it be mostly video game machines or pinball machines or crane or ticket redemption style, what kind of game are you most likely to play first? (Well, other than a change or token machine - those aren't really games!)
Be as specific (a certain game or activity) or as generic (a genre or maybe something with a certain appearance, or any other criteria you can think of) as you want, and let me know in the comments!
Hi Walter! I really like this post, and since you thought no one would respond to it, I decided to check out your page! I feel like it's important to start off by saying I have 3 older brothers; let's just say I spent a good part of my childhood trying to get the Mortal Kombat theme song out of my head. As for me, my favorite arcade game is Dig Dug. At the time, 6 or 7 years ago, Walmart sold individual copies of the game that hooked up to your TV. It even came with a joystick! I know my experience wasn't entirely authentic, but if it was, I would love it all the same!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! Dig Dug was a classic, I remember as a kid we'd play that and Startropics on the NES a lot at the neighbor's house. Great game!

ReplyDeleteWhen I walk into an arcade I go straight for the candy crane game! Being that it is cheap, and I am a sucker for sweets, this will be my all-time favorite. You usually leave winning something too.
ReplyDeleteI also am addicted to the new game where you try to get the key into the keyhole to win the big $$ prizes such as go-pros, iPads, and PS4s. I never win, but coming close to such pricey prizes brings excitement.
Those are great! I had a friend growing up who was a wizard at the crane games - if he saw something in it he thought he could get, nine times out of ten he'd be able to do it with one try. I think the closest I've come is having something dangling from the claw only to be dropped just before it was over the exit chute. But you're right - the thrill is fun!
DeleteI hate cranes and steer clear of them! I'm really bad at crane games unless they're the ones designed for extremely small children haha I love the classic ski ball of course! And I forget what its called but I love the game where the light goes around and you have to try and stop it in a certain spot for tickets! Similarly I used to be addicted to this game where it was a circle with different slices of color and it would spin around with a ball on top and you had to try and stop it so that the ball would land on a certain color and each color had a different prize amount. I don't know if that makes sense or if you've seen that one before but I've won many prizes from that game!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to take a couple guesses: are those games Colorama and Cyclone?

Colorama: https://larrywilnergames.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/colorama-copy.jpg
I like both of those, though I don't think I've won much off of either, but the thrill is real!
